Teen & Junior Programmes – Some ideas for your Child’s Autumn Holidays

Oh, the holidays – that time of year where your child is off school and may utter the words ‘I’m bored’…

It’s also the time where they should learn something new, or you should take them on holiday to a foreign country.

How about combining both?

The European School of English (Malta)’s Teen and Junior programmes will be back this Autumn 2023! You won’t have to worry about your child’s safety – our leisure team always keeps a watchful and friendly eye on all students, and teachers will accompany them during lessons as well as during activities.

The Summer Programme is currently running from until the 2nd September 2023, and our Autumn programme will commence on the 30th September and finish on the 4th November.

Why visit Malta in Autumn?

In the months of September to November, the average temperature ranges from 20 to 28 degrees Celsius, making it the perfect destination for the Autumn season. Following the peak of summer tourism, Malta is less crowded during these months, so you will be able to explore the island hassle-free.

What are ESE’s Teen & Junior Programmes?

ESE provides the following packages:

If you choose the Teen Club or Junior Camp programme, your child will be accommodated at the 4-star Salini Resort. Located within a tranquil setting, students will also have lessons within the hotel. Classrooms are equipped with modern facilities including Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs), air conditioning and are bright.

Our Group Leaders are always present in the hotel and will offer support and help students 24/7 and during activities. There is a nurse and first aiders on site as well as a medical doctor available on call.

Meals will be provided in the common dining room, and an excellent choice of nutritious food is offered to students.

Rooms at the Salini Resort for students enrolled in these programmes are quadruple. Your child will be placed with peers of the same gender and as much as possible, different nationalities. This encourages them to speak English in a safe and high-quality setting. Amenities in all rooms include:

  • En-suite bathroom
  • Air conditioning
  • TV
  • Hairdryer
  • Safe
  • Frigo fridge

  • Games room
  • Wi-Fi in common areas

Another alternative is the Teen Host Family programme. Your child will be placed with a carefully selected Host Family on full board. This not only gives him or her the opportunity to experience Maltese lifestyle in a safe environment, but also to practise their English outside the classroom. Rooms are shared with other students following the same programme.

Should you wish to choose your own accommodation and accompany your child upon their stay, the Day Programme is for you! Students will attend lessons at the Salini Resort, join the other students on their activities and are given hot lunch.

What activities are included in the programme?

Students following all Teen & Junior programmes will be provided with fun age-appropriate activities during their stay. Activity programmes allow students to have fun during their language stay as well as make new friends from other countries. They usually take place in the morning/afternoon and evening during the week as well as on Saturdays. Sunday is a free day for students, but optional activities may be offered at an additional cost, such as a full-day Gozo tour, a game of paintball or boat trip to Comino.

Some of our leisure activities available

Curfews will apply to all programmes – students aged 13 – 14 years old must return to residence by 11pm; those aged 15 – 17 years old must do so by midnight (Sunday to Thursday) & 1am (Fridays & Saturdays). Please note that Junior Camp students must not leave the Salini Resort unless attending the leisure activities.

What do lessons consist of?

Your child will have 20 lessons (15 hours) per week (45 minutes = 1 lesson) in the morning or afternoon. If you opt for the Teen Club or Teen Host Family Programme, you may upgrade to 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week or Intensive Group 20 lessons (15 hours) plus 10 Individual lessons (7.5 hours). The latter combines General English 20 lessons with 10 private or semi-private one-on-one lessons.

Each class has a maximum capacity of 15 students. Our teachers are proficient, native-level speakers and will help your child develop their fluency. At the beginning of their course, students are tested to assess their English level and placed in classes accordingly.

Classroom topics are made appropriate to the age group and students are usually given course books by National Geographic Learning. ESE has chosen to use these for their stunning visuals, their engaging content and ‘real-world’ experience, and they help students practise 21st Century skills such as creative and critical thinking.

A Guide to the Public Holidays in Malta

These hold both national and religious importance to Malta as they commemorate historical events, including the birth of the Church in Malta, the departure of Malta’s colonisers, Christianity in Malta and other significant moments.
