Work Placements, Internships & Working Experiences in Malta
This programme gives you the opportunity to gain practical work experience which is relevant to your area of study or interest.
Work placements, Internships and Work Experiences all refer to a period of time which a student, recent graduate, or someone looking for a change in their career, spend with an organisation to experience work in general or a particular career path.
There are subtle differences between these terms, but ESE will endeavour to offer you a post related to your area of study or interest and which will help you in any career. As an ESE student you will benefit from complementary English classes as well as working in an English-speaking work environment.
ESE offers a number of complementary lessons to applicants who take on this package. These help to help the applicant to settle in to life in Malta, brush up one’s language skills, and give the applicant time to meet new like-minded students who they will be able to spend their time with after work.
✔ work in an English-speaking work environment
✔ develop your English especially for work purposes
✔ improve your presenting & negotiating skills
✔ write a CV/resume
Length of Course
Minimum 4 weeks however organisations prefer to accept only students if they are in Malta for a minimum of 10 weeks.
English face-to-face tuition
- 4 weeks: 16 lessons (12 hours) of General English classes
- 5-9 weeks: 20 lessons (15 hours) of General English classes
- 10 weeks + 40 lessons (30 hours) of General English classes. Students will normally have one week of English classes at the beginning and one week at the end of their stay.
It is important to specify in your application what tasks you will expect to carry out when you are at the organisation. On receipt of your application, a member of our team will contact you to ask some questions about the said expected tasks and your previous experiences, and will then look for the most suitable organisation to host you. Completed applications for work placements should reach us at least 14 weeks before your preferred arrival date.
No remuneration is usually offered by hosting organisations although students in the Tourism Industry may receive remuneration for stays of 16 weeks or longer.
Which study areas can we cater for?
To date we have placed students in more than 30 areas of study. The duration of your stay will usually determine the number of tasks that you can carry out (students who are in Malta for only 4 weeks are usually given less demanding tasks than those who are here for stays of more than 10 weeks), however your ability to integrate with the hosting organisation, your subject knowledge, as well as your flair, could also be determining factors in the number of tasks given, however, you should normally expect to be given tasks from the profiles adjacent to the study area:
- Auto Mechanics
- Beauty Therapy and Hair Dressing
- Childcare & Teaching Assistants
- Coaching Assistants in various Sport Disciplines
- Dental Assistants
- Electrical Technical Assistants
- Fashion Design
- Graphic & Web Design
- Hospitality & Hotel Management
- International Trade
