Student testimonial – Interview with Ayaka

Ayaka Japanese Student

Earlier this year, Ayaka followed a 5 month and a half General English 20 course.

We interviewed her to ask her about her experience studying at ESE, her favourite things about Malta, accommodation and why you should study with us.

Read this interview in:

What made you decide to study in Malta? How did you choose ESE?

I wanted to study English in Europe, and I was particularly attracted to Malta’s beautiful sea and cityscape. Of the schools referred by the agent, I chose ESE based on accessibility, Japan staff, and the percentage of Japan students.

What do you think is the best thing about studying in Malta?

Especially in the summer, it is a place where you can not only learn English, but also enjoy in the beautiful sea and city that Europeans visit for their holidays. In the autumn and winter months, it is also possible to travel to European countries at a low cost. Also, compared to other European countries, the weather is stable, and there are many sunny days even in November and December.

Have you used the ESE website, Instagram, Facebook or E-learning? What was convenient about the school facilities? Please let me know if there is anything you would like to have.

I haven’t used e-learning during my stay in Malta, but I plan to use it after I return to Japan.

Would you recommend ESE to other prospective study abroad students? What do you think would be particularly recommended?

It is recommended that you can enjoy English classes with international classmates and that there are plenty of activities. It’s not too big or small, so I thought it was good that I could try different teachers and classes and choose the one that suits me.

How did the class progress, the teacher’s teaching style, and the atmosphere of the class?

It depends on the teacher, but there were many teachers who enjoyed the conversation while proceeding with the class, so I didn’t find it difficult to speak up. I was able to get along with my classmates very quickly.

Please tell us your impressions of homestays, school dormitories, etc.

I was able to stay with a wonderful host family who treated me like a real family. I think the good thing about homestay is that you can enjoy Maltese home-cooked food and interact with Maltese people as well as non-Japan people.

What is the purpose of studying abroad this time? How will you make use of the English you have learned in the future?

I want to become an English teacher in the future, so I studied abroad to improve my English skills and gain overseas experience.

The biggest thing you think that you were able to gain this time (English ability?) Friend? Experience etc… What is it?

I was able to make friends that I would like to see again somewhere even after returning to Japan. The experience of being able to visit 13 European countries in five and a half months was also a big one.

What did you mainly do after school? Where are the best holiday spots? Do you have a favourite place?

Valletta and Comino were my favourites. I spent my time after school cooking with my friends and going out to play.

Please feel free to comment on your advice for those who are considering studying abroad in Malta in the future!

Compared to studying in the UK, the cost is much cheaper, and the weather is quite stable compared to Ireland, so if you want to study in Europe, Malta is definitely recommended. Studying abroad in Europe was a great experience because I was able to travel not only to that country but also to the surrounding countries. I was able to communicate with many people in English while traveling, and I was able to feel my growth when I was able to solve any problems that arose.

I understand that you are hesitating that Malta is far away from home and would be expensive, but I think it is a very good environment for personal growth. I think you will be able to experience the best study abroad experience not only to improve your language skills.
