This Sunday, 22nd February 2026, the annual Malta Marathon will take place in many parts of the island, attracting thousands of runners and spectators. It’s one of Malta’s biggest sporting events of the year and a great local experience for visitors and residents alike.

Public transport users are advised to plan ahead, check bus schedules and allow extra time for any journeys on Sunday morning. Road closures are generally in place during the early marathon hours and may affect access to major roads used for training runs or sightseeing.

 

Also, the bus and transport changes; several bus routes may operate earlier, later, or with partial cancellations on Sunday due to road closures connected to the marathon route. This includes services that link key towns and tourist areas.

  • Mosta: 7:30am – 9:00am

  • Ta’ Qali: 7:00am – 10:00am

  • Attard (Centre Link, towards Valletta): 8:15am – 11:00am

  • Mrieħel Bypass (towards Valletta): 8:30am – 11:30am

  • Marsa (towards Valletta): 8:30am – 11:30am

  • Qormi to Ħamrun Bypass (towards Marsa and Valletta): 8:30am – 11:30am

  • Marsa to Valletta: 8:30am – 11:30am

  • Pietà Seafront (towards Valletta): 8:30am – 11:45am

  • Msida Seafront (towards Valletta): 8:30am – 11:45am

  • Ta’ Xbiex and Gżira Seafront (towards Valletta): 6:45am – 12:00pm

  • Tigné Seafront: 4:00am – 3:00pm
