Lessons
A General English 20 course is included in the Host Family programme with 4 lessons, each 45 minutes long, held every weekday either in the morning or afternoon. Host Family students may also upgrade their course to either General English 30 (6 lessons per day) or the Intensive English course which combines General English 20 with 10 semi / private one-to-one lessons.
Students improve their general level of English with more focus on their core language skills (speaking, reading, writing and listening) grammar and vocabulary. Lessons are based on exciting topics which are relevant to the students’ ages. They are also encouraged to develop their fluency by responding to these topics as well as other stimulating teaching material such as current events updates which helps build confidence as they express their opinion in English.
Our Teens students staying in Host Families have their lessons either at the main school in St. Julian’s, where all classrooms are also air conditioned and outfitted with Smart Boards or in one of ESE’s annex schools.

Our General English options
General English 20
4 Group lessons /day
20 lessons per week, recommended for anyone who wants to improve their English in a class with students from all over the world at the same English level. This is the most popular course with Teen Club students who need to brush up their English in a short period (1 -3 weeks).
General English 30
6 Group lessons / day
30 lessons per week, recommended for anyone who wants or needs to dedicate more time to learning English. More lessons means faster progress in improving your English level.
Intensive English
4 Group lessons / day &
2 One-to-one lessons / day
30 lessons per week, recommended for anyone who wants to combine group lessons with one-to-one lessons. This course is very popular with students who want or need to improve their English in a short period of time. It is also popular with students who have a well defined learning goal and who need that personal attention and tuition.
Timetable
Our class schedule allows students to choose either 20 lessons or 30 lessons (group or individual) per week. Lessons may take place in the morning or afternoon.* this schedule changes on a Maltese public holiday
If you prefer to combine a General English group course with one-to-one tuition while learning English, then the Intensive (General English) option is for you.
When booking the Intensive option, you follow group lessons in the morning and have the opportunity to practise and improve your fluency with other English language learners of the same language level. In the afternoon, you benefit from one-to-one individual attention from your teacher. During this lesson, you can ask your teacher to focus on any area of language you like or simply take the opportunity to practise more speaking on a one-to-one basis. Our academic staff ensures that you follow the course at the right language level for you.
What is your level of English?
Don’t worry – we’ll figure that out for you.
Before arrival you can do the ESE online placement test, which must be submitted at least 14 days before you start your course.

Practise English in the safety of a home
Living with a host family offers your child the opportunity to practise English outside the school in a safe family environment.
Apart from being completely immersed in the language and benefitting from out-of-class opportunities to learn English, your child will also experience living in a Maltese home and learn about Maltese culture, food and traditions at first hand.
Our experienced accommodation services team are responsible for choosing host families who can provide your child with a welcoming and comfortable stay in Malta. Through the careful selection of ESE host families, we ensure that our teens are safe, comfortable and treated like a member of the family. Host families will normally be present at home when the 13-17 year old students are indoors. ESE organised transport is provided from/to school as well as the nearest pick-up point after evening activities.
Alternative Programme
Students aged 14 – 17 years may choose to join the Teen Club Programme at The Salini Resort (4-star) for a supplemental fee.
