The European Day of Languages is an opportunity to celebrate and raise awareness about Europe’s multi-cultural diversity and the many languages spoken within Europe today.
The European Union has 24 official languages, such as English, French, Spanish and German. However over 60 regional and minority languages, as well as over 175 migrant languages are also spoken across Europe!
Across the world approximately 7,000 different languages are spoken and at least half the world’s population are bilingual or multilingual. The European Day of Languages encourages us all to celebrate these many different languages and promotes’life-long language learning’ amongst us all.
